I have been taught by nature, through observation of the landscape and plants. Art is the natural world filtered through the artists mind and represented by work in the style of the artist. I believe I have developed a unique style, painting only with a knife, through 35 years of actively painting.
I give people another window in their life and an opportunity to see places they might otherwise miss. My paintings are of wilderness, without people, and without technology. |

My style of painting with a knife enables me to represent the textures of 'wood, weeds, and wilderness'. The layers of landscape and air, mountain and forest come alive as I paint and I see through veils as the world is revealed. Every 'scape is different and every minute of every day is different so it is a challenge to catch a representative view. This means that chances to work outdoors unencumbered by the pressures of family life are cherished moments and are pursued whenever possible, in any country. However, most of my larger pieces are worked in the studio of our home in La Veta, Colorado, amongst the mountains I paint and the aspens I love. |
